Kaiser, Wenger, Weaver named to Regional soccer teams; Boyertown, Upper Perkiomen girls make the grade

The Pioneer Athletic Conference continued to rack up the postseason soccer awards this week.

On the heels of being selected to the PA Soccer Coaches All-State team along with Spring-Ford junior defender Liv Curry, Pottsgrove senior goalkeeper Luke Kaiser, Boyertown junior striker Beckett Wenger and Owen J. Roberts junior defender Morgan Weaver were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region team announced Wednesday.

Additionally, the girls teams from Boyertown and Upper Perkiomen were recognized for their continued outstanding academic performances.

Kaiser posted seven shutouts help Pottsgrove (8-5-1) reach the District 1 Class AAA championship game, Wenger notched a team-high 10 goals for PAC champion Boyertown (8-5) and Weaver was a dynamic force at center back for the PAC co-champion Wildcats (10-2-1), triggering a shutdown defense that limited opponents to a league-best eight goals combined on the season.

Recognized again by the United Soccer Coaches as recipients of the High School Team Academic Award were the Boyertown and Upper Perkiomen girls. The Bears, coached by Bill Goddard, posted a cumulative 3.62 GPA to earn the distinction for the 14th straight season, while Mike Freed’s Indians carried a GPA of 3.72 to make it eight straight seasons on the esteemed list, which included a total of 178 girls teams nationwide.

The PA Players of the Year on the regional team were seniors Ben Liscum of Lewisburg and Ellie Coffield of Mars.
